Preserve Food and Water
Your refrigerator and freezer are your first line of defense for food preservation, but they need help. Keep the doors closed as much as possible. An unopened refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours, while a full freezer can hold its temperature for nearly 48 hours.
Stock up on non-perishable food items that require no cooking or refrigeration, such as canned goods, dry fruits, and nuts. Don't forget a manual can opener!
Water is critical. Store at least one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days. If you have advanced warning of a storm, fill your bathtub and spare containers with water for washing and flushing toilets.
